What Is Ping?

Ping is the round-trip time it takes for a small packet of data to travel from your computer to the game server and back. It is measured in milliseconds (ms). A ping of 20ms means it takes 20 thousandths of a second for your actions to reach the server and for the server's response to reach you.

How Ping Affects Gameplay

In fast-paced games like first-person shooters or battle royales, even small differences in ping can be noticeable. With high ping, your shots may not register as expected, enemies may appear to teleport, and your movement may feel sluggish or delayed. This is because there is a gap between what you see on your screen and what is actually happening on the server.

For slower-paced games like turn-based strategy or sandbox builders, high ping is less of an issue but can still cause annoying delays when interacting with the world.

Ping Ranges and What They Mean

• 0-30ms: Excellent. You will not notice any delay. Ideal for competitive gaming.

Optimize Your Network
